Pregnancy

When considering to have a massage during pregnancy you should consult your midwife or GP before having the treatment and check they are happy for you to go ahead.

Prior to your massage you will have a consultation to determine which kind will be most suitable for you.

Is it safe?

Massage is generally considered safe following the first trimester of pregnancy, although checking with your Midwife or GP is definitely recommended.

There are many benefits of pregnancy massage.

Not only is it totally relaxing and enjoyable for you, the main benefits are:

Reduces stress & Anxiety

Although pregnancy is a wonder time for many women, sometimes it can cause anxiety. Massage is a perfect way to relax, connect with your body and I can help you understand that the changes in your body are normal and to be expected.

Reduces joint and muscle pain

Eases away joint aches and discomfort that may be triggered by the many changes in your body.

Helps you sleep better

During your pregnancy you could possibly find it more difficult to sleep through tossing and turning. Massage will assist in total relaxation and helping to ensure a good night sleep.

Reduces swelling in the feet and ankles

Gentle massage strokes can help sore and swollen feet as well as prevention.

Boosts blood circulation

Reduces lower back pain

Reduces pregnancy headaches

Pregnancy massage is a specifically adapted to be a gentle and soothing massage tailored for mother-to-be.

For most women the benefits will be to ease aches and pains but also preparing for labour.

You will lie on your side on a comfortable, soft massage table. For your comfort extra cushions and pillows will be placed accordingly.

Deeper techniques will be avoided, more gentle techniques will be used. If you have any concerns please consult your midwife, GP or obstetrician doctor.

Generally it may be advised to avoid the first trimester although there is no evidence to prove that massage can cause miscarriage, but it’s a sensible precaution to take.

Sciatic and pelvic pain

The hormones of pregnancy, combined with the increasing weight of the baby in the pelvic space, can in some women, cause sciatic pain, or pelvic pain. This can be particularly distressing and difficult to manage. Your masseuse can work carefully to ease the pains around your pelvic joints and into your buttocks and legs.

Client Testimonials

When I first came to see Jakki I wasn’t sure what to expect so was a bit nervous. Within the first few minutes of being with her I felt comfortable. She knew I was nervous and put me at ease straight away. I had suffered with neck and back pain for a long time. I’ve been having monthly massages for a year and it has helped me so much.

Jakki is kind and caring ensuring she is providing the best treatment to meet your needs. I have been seeing Jakki for a number of years and always feel better for seeing her. The space is warm and calming and the perfect place to feel relaxed to fully enjoy the experience.

Layna Giles-Wyatt

I first met Jakki when I was training for the London Marathon. And I had a problem with my back. Her sports massage really helped me recover very quickly to keep up my training.

I’m now training for the Berlin Marathon and visit Jakki regularly as I can feel the benefits of regular massage through my intensive training plan. Jakki is very friendly, very professional. Jakki is also very helpful in knowing the correct massage – a preparation massage before an important race followed by a recovery massage after a long intensive race. I would highly recommend Jakki for her professional massage therapy.
